Many pre-law students wonder if LSAT tutoring could be the answer to achieving a high LSAT score. In this guide, we’ll outline exactly what working with Juris Education’s private LSAT tutors looks like and how we can help you maximize your score before test day.

Step 1: Building a Personalized LSAT Tutoring Package

The first step is to choose a tutoring package that aligns with your needs and score goals. You will speak with a Juris Education Enrollment Manager during a free 20-minute consultation.

The Enrollment Manager will ask questions to determine which package fits your needs best. They will ask you about your planned test date, when you want to apply to law school, and the challenges you’ve faced so far as you prepare for the LSAT.

No two tutoring plans are the same, because every student learns differently and has their own way of studying and digesting material. Almost every aspect of our programs can be customised. Here are a few ways we can personalize your LSAT tutoring program:

  1. We can adjust the number of hours you spend with your tutor to align with your schedule, planned test date, and LSAT prep needs.
  2. We can add a score increase guarantee to give you peace of mind that you’ll see your LSAT score improve in as little as two weeks.
  3. We can allot more hours of your tutoring program to target the LSAT question types you find the most challenging.
  4. We can supplement your tutoring program with tailored resources, such as full-length practice tests, timed drills, and question sets, for the greatest impact on your score.
  5. We can use your preferred LSAT study materials that you already own to guide your program, including prep books.
  6. We can alter your tutoring program’s pacing to align with your planned LSAT test date to ensure all your hours are used.
  7. We can customize your tutor’s teaching methods to align with your learning style, whether you prefer visuals, repetition, written steps, or any other method to help you learn and retain knowledge.
  8. We can build fast-tracked tutoring plans for students who have little time to study before taking the test and applying to law school.
  9. We can ensure your tutor provides concrete feedback on how you think through questions to improve your approach to Logical Reasoning (LR) and Reading Comprehension (RC) questions.
  10. We can add regular accountability check-ins and progress emails to help students and parents stay in the loop as students complete their tutoring programs.

If you can't find exactly what you're looking for, your Enrollment Director can create a custom service or payment plan that fits your goals and budget.

Here’s what Linnea, a law school reapplicant, thought about working with us through her tutoring program:

“The LSAT tutor [that Juris Education] connected me with helped me increase my score by 8 points within a month, which is crazy! I was so happy I had found a tutor I could work with and see results from.”

We helped Linnea transform her profile, including providing one-on-one LSAT tutoring, to help her get accepted to 13 out of 15 schools she applied to. You can hear Linnea’s whole story and a breakdown of her experience by watching the video below:

Step 2: Completing the Student Onboarding Questionnaire

You will complete our Student Onboarding Questionnaire to help our team learn more about you and your background. We will use the information you provide in the questionnaire to select a tutor who best fits your preferences, needs, and prep goals.

We will ask for your personal information, including your name, email, and phone number.

Our Student Onboarding Questionnaire will also ask about your academic background and preferences, including:

  • What is your cumulative GPA?
  • How do you learn and work best?
  • Are there any personality traits, qualities, or communication styles you’d prefer in your tutor?
  • Is this your first time taking the test?

The Student Onboarding Questionnaire will also ask questions about:

  • Your availability to meet with your LSAT tutor
  • Planned test date
  • Which test prep aspects are most challenging for you
  • LSAT sections that you need help with the most
  • How often you would like to meet with your LSAT tutor

There is also a space to write anything you’d like your tutor to know before they meet you.

Privacy guaranteed. No spam, ever.

Step 3: Matching You With Your Best-Fit Tutor

After you submit a complete Student Onboarding Questionnaire, your name and information will be added to our customer relationship management (CRM) system.

You will receive a welcome email from your Student Success Manager that covers key details about when you will be matched with a tutor and tips to help you and your tutor work together effectively. Your Student Success Manager is your contact for any questions, comments, or concerns as you progress throughout your LSAT tutoring program. Your Student Success Manager is your contact for any questions, concerns, or comments at every step through your exam prep program.

Your Student Success Manager will match you with an expert tutor within 1 to 2 days, using the information you provided in our questionnaire as selection criteria. Your Student Success Manager will assess the following factors to partner you with your best-fit tutor:

    • The days of the week and times you’re available to meet with your tutor
    • Your time zone
    • Learning and working styles
    • Which LSAT sections you find the most challenging
    • Your target LSAT score/law schools

You can see a selection of a few of our 173+ scoring tutors you can work with below:

Juris Education’s private LSAT tutors work with only three to five students at a time. Many larger tutoring companies will allow one tutor to work with many students individually at once (often ranging from 5 to 15). Some firms that offer classroom, group, or hybrid tutoring packages will have one tutor managing several cohorts of 15 to 30 students. Our small student-to-tutor ratio (from 3:1 to 5:1) ensures that every student who works with us receives personalized, one-on-one attention focused only on their needs.

After you are matched with a tutor, they will email you to set up a date and time for your first meeting. You will also receive login information for JurisOS, our online communication platform and organizational tool for students, tutors, and parents.

The JurisOS home screen, pictured below, allows you to message your tutor, see your personalized LSAT study schedule, and view weekly assignments to stay on track throughout your program.

Step 4: Attend Tutoring Sessions With Your Tutor

Your first session with your tutor is an introductory call to help you learn more about each other and build a rapport. Your tutor will ask you questions about your background, LSAT goals, target JD programs, and learning style to tailor their instruction to what you need. This call helps your tutor further personalize your tutoring program and is the first step toward them creating a strategy to help you improve your score.

Your first call will cover these key points:

    • Tutor introductions
    • Discussions about your background, LSAT prep concerns, and your weaknesses and strengths
    • Explaining the document sharing process via Google Drive
    • Sharing a sample study plan that will be tailored to your needs after the call
    • Determining a communication cadence and meeting schedule that works for your availability
    • Establishing your preferred communication methods (email, video chat, etc.)
    • Explanation of next steps
    • A Q&A session for any questions you want to ask your tutor

How frequently you meet with your tutor depends on your availability, your planned test date, your goal score, and how many hours are in your program. You and your tutor will determine a tentative tutoring session schedule that works around your availability and uses all hours in your package before test day.

After your first meeting with your tutor, you can use the messaging system within the JurisOS platform. You can use this system to chat with your tutor, ask them questions, and schedule or reschedule your next tutoring session.

You can see an example of the JurisOS messaging system below:

You and your tutor will meet weekly to gauge your progress toward your goal score. These sessions will focus on building your LSAT LR and RC skills. Your tutor will help you identify question types, develop test-taking strategies to improve your speed and accuracy, and explain questions you answered incorrectly in your weekly assignments and practice tests.

You can see all upcoming tutoring sessions using the JurisOS scheduling feature, as seen below. You can also add your tutoring schedule to HEY Calendar, Google Calendar, Outlook, and organizational calendars.

Every session with your tutor will be personalized to your LSAT prep needs. The general structure of each call is as follows:

    1. Go Through the Session Agenda: Your tutor will outline action items for your call, including specific LSAT topics and questions you will work through together during your session.
    2. Practice With Real LSAT Questions: You will try to solve questions with your tutor, walking them through your approach to each question.
    3. Your Tutor Will Identify Your Weaknesses: Your tutor will identify any weaknesses in your approach to Logical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension content, such as misidentifying question types or choosing answers not supported by the question. They will provide insights on how to boost your speed and accuracy as you navigate LR and RC questions.
    4. Ask Questions From Weekly Assignments & Practice Tests: You will revisit questions from tailored weekly assignments and practice tests you answered incorrectly. Your tutor will explain where you went wrong and how to alter your approach to confidently arrive at the correct answer the next time you see similar question types.
    5. Get Assigned Weekly LSAT Practice Questions: Your tutor will assign homework to complete before your next meeting, including tailored question sets and full-length LSAT tests.

Click the video below to see an example of a private LSAT tutoring session, where a tutor works with a student through a Logical Reasoning question and provides strategies for approaching other questions.

Step 5: Crafting a Personalized LSAT Study Plan

Your tutor will build an original LSAT study plan personalized to your specific prep needs. Your study plan will be tailored based on your:

    • Diagnostic test/initial LSAT score
    • Weekly availability
    • Proficiency in the LR and RC sections
    • Test-taking weaknesses, such as misidentifying question types or taking too long to select the correct answer

Your LSAT study schedule will include which lessons, questions, and review assignments you should complete. Our LSAT study schedules are original and tailored to each student. This ensures that your study plan centres on high-impact prep that will lead to you achieving a 165+ LSAT score guarantee.

You can see an example LSAT study plan in the screenshot pictured below.

Step 6: Access Exclusive LSAT Resources

Every tutoring package we offer includes extensive resources to help aspiring lawyers understand and master the LSAT. All our packages include:

    • 6,000+ official LSAT questions
    • 10 full-length practice tests and 1,000+ explanations
    • 700+ questions with video explanations

You will also find numerous resources within the JurisOS Docs & Files tab, such as:

    • Juris Education LSAT ebook & full-length practice test
    • Official LSAT test dates
    • Sample questions and quizzes
    • Sample LR & RC questions
    • And more

You can see the Docs & Files tab pictured below.

Step 7: Complete Tailored Weekly Assignments & Full-Length LSAT Practice Tests

Your tutor will assign regular assignments to help you retain what you have learned in tutoring sessions. These weekly assignments will include:

    • Content Questions: These questions will help you practice with the material you reviewed in your previous tutoring session.
    • Timed Drills: These assignments help you improve your speed and ensure you’re on pace to succeed on the LSAT.
    • A Blend of LR, RC, and Writing Assignments: You will receive assignments to improve your understanding of all LSAT sections.

You can see an overview of your weekly assignments in the JurisOS To-Dos tab in the screenshot below:

The To-Dos tab lists all items to be completed weekly to ensure you don’t miss any content practice or key steps as you navigate your tutoring program.

Your tutor will also triage weekly assignments within the JurisOS Card Table tab, as seen below.

The Cards Table helps you and your tutor see which assignments you haven’t started, which ones you’re working on, and which are ready for your tutor’s review. Your tutor will review your assignment and evaluate your performance. You and your tutor will take up any questions you missed or answered incorrectly during your practice in your next tutoring session.

Your tutor will also assign full-length LSAT practice tests to measure your score improvements throughout the program. Your practice test performance can help your tutor identify remaining gaps in how you approach LR and RC questions, time management issues, and anything else that may be impeding your progress toward your goal LSAT score.

For example, you can read Thomas’ experience with us below to learn how we helped him improve his approach to LSAT questions and boost his score by 16 points.

Iterate LSAT Study Plan, If Needed

We’re committed to ensuring every hour spent with your tutor positively impacts your LSAT score. Our commitment extends to altering your LSAT prep plan as needed based on your practice test and weekly assignment performance.

It’s possible that your LSAT prep needs to change as you progress through your tutoring program. For example, you may find that you master the RC section sooner than anticipated, or that you need more time to learn how to correctly identify LR question types. Your tutor will alter your LSAT prep plan to reflect your current needs and ensure that every hour you spend together maximizes your score.

The JurisOS Automatic Check-Ins platform allows students and parents to share comments, struggles, and questions with tutors. If you need to spend more or less time on a concept or section, you and your tutor can discuss how to further personalize your study schedule.
