What makes Thomas Jefferson University's Law School Pipeline Programs uniquely valuable for aspiring law students?

Thomas Jefferson School of Law’s pipeline program is uniquely valuable because it is intentionally designed to expand access and remove traditional barriers to legal education. We are one of the few law schools that allows applicants to apply with an Associate Degree, opening the door for community college students and others who may not follow a traditional academic path.

We are proud to partner with community colleges to advise, support, and encourage pipeline and other non-traditional students as they explore legal careers. This commitment is reflected in our student body: over 60% of our students are students of color, and more than 50% are women.

Additionally, in addition to our residential program, our fully online asynchronous online program provides meaningful access for individuals who are unable to relocate or attend a traditional, campus-based program. With an average student age of 31 in our online program, many of our students are second-career professionals bringing diverse perspectives and real-world experience into the classroom.

Together, these elements create a more inclusive, accessible pathway into the legal profession.

Which skills can students expect to build during this Program?

Students at Thomas Jefferson School of Law develop a strong foundation of skills essential for success in both law school and the legal profession. Our program emphasizes critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and effective communication, core competencies for any aspiring law student.

Students also build practical academic skills through legal writing, research methods, and exam strategies, helping them better understand the expectations of a rigorous law school environment. In addition, workshops and programming are designed to strengthen time management, study techniques, and overall learning strategies.

Beyond academics, students gain insight into professional skills such as networking, professionalism, and effective communication with peers, faculty, and legal professionals. Through engagement with practicing attorneys and judges, students also develop a better understanding of the realities of the legal field and the importance of civility, ethics, and wellness in sustaining a successful career.

Together, these experiences equip students with both the academic tools and professional awareness needed to confidently pursue a legal education.

How does your Program prepare students for the realities of law school and the legal field?

Thomas Jefferson School of Law prepares students for the realities of law school and the legal field through a comprehensive, practice-oriented support system. During our required Week One Orientation, students are introduced to an Academic Support course that builds a strong foundation in the essential skills needed to succeed in a rigorous academic environment.

Throughout the program, we offer both mandatory and optional enrichment workshops focused on developing core competencies, including legal writing, research, exam strategies, and effective learning techniques. Students also participate in student and professional development workshops led by faculty and practicing attorneys, which helps bridge the gap between theory and practice.

Students gain firsthand exposure to the profession through internships, shadow days, and judicial court visits, where they observe the work of judges and attorneys and the professionalism required in the field.

In partnership with the California Judges Association, the law school hosts multi-day workshops featuring judges and attorneys who provide candid insight into the realities of law school and the legal profession, while emphasizing health, wellness, and the importance of civility and communication.

Together, these resources ensure students are academically prepared, professionally informed, and equipped for success.
